What is the Unified Application?
The Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education
(ACCME), Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE),
and the American Nursing Credentialing Center (ANCC), have
developed this Unified Application (pdf,
112 KB) or the Self Study Report (the Report) for Accreditation
of Institutions
and Organizations
as Providers of Continuing Education for Health Care Professionals
as a means of simplifying the accreditation process for continuing
education providers with multiple accreditations.
What is the fee if our organization uses this application to
apply to 2 or more accreditation agencies?
Each organization will retain its own fees, as well as, eligibility
requirements and accreditation decision-making processes.
Does the Application process include a site visit?
ACPE does not require a site visit. ACCME and ANCC do require
a site visit as part of their evaluation.
If our organization applies to ACPE for accreditation status
using the Unified Application and receives accreditation status,
can I also provide CME credit?
No. If you become accredited by ACPE you can only award ACPE
credit. In order to award CME credit, your organization needs
to apply to become an ACCME-accredited provider.
Our organization is accredited by ACCME, ACPE, and ANCC. Our
accreditation term for each of the three organizations expires
in 2003, 2004, and 2005, respectively. Is there a way that
I can only complete the report and proceed through the process
only one time?
Yes, the three accrediting agencies can attempt to adjust the
terms; so for example your organization may go through the
accreditation process in 2004.
